Nicholas Pinter has consulted and provided expert-witness testimony for a range of projects and cases. He has testified in U.S. Federal Court (St. Louis) on the effects of levees and levee construction upon river dynamics and flood frequencies, including testimony on the limitations of hydraulic models. He has provided litigation support and analysis for other cases in U.S. Federal Court (incl. Kansas City, MO and Charleston, WV) involving river dynamics, flooding, bank stability, and levee failure and damage. In other consultantships, he has analyzed erosion, slope stability, flood hydrology, fluvial geomorphology, etc.
Prof. Pinter is an international authority in earth-surface processes, including flooding, river systems, hydrology, and natural hazards. His research focuses on changes in river systems, in particular human and natural alterations that make flooding more severe than it would otherwise be. Looking at the Mississippi, Missouri, Rhine, Danube, and other rivers in the U.S. and worldwide, this work has quantified the impacts of levee expansion, navigational engineering, changes in basin land use, and other factors.
Prof. Pinter accepts selected projects in his areas of expertise across the U.S. and internationally.
